Inquiry 1
For my Inquiry 1 I wrote a paper about the remix Primetime Terror, a remix about how Primetime television depicts the war on terror and the war on drugs. It points out how many TV shows such as 24, Law and Order, CSI, and NCIS show a skewed version of what goes on in reality about topic such as who the criminal's are, how the judicial system works and how many of these shows depict an intense pursuit of the criminal when really in reality things don't always work out like that. I analyzed the different elements of the remix and how it was produced and what importance and purpose it served to the American people. I also talked about the creators rhetorical choices and how effective the video was overall.
Inquiry 2
For my Inquiry 2 I wrote a paper about intertextuality in the speech that Herb Brooks gave to the U.S. hockey team in the 1980 Olympics. Intertextuality is the shaping of a text meaning by another text and has to do with the phrases, ideals, and concepts inside the speech that come from another text or multiple texts. In his speech, Brooks has many phrases he uses, emotion as well as many historical references that I point out and analyze, and it really brings his entire speech together to get his team fired up. I chose to write about this speech because of my love for hockey, and the 1980 gold medal team and its huge historical meaning in American history. Although its just a game, it really brought the American people together in such hard times to watch a group of underdogs take on the greatest team in the world and come out with a win, and eventually a gold medal.
